One of the key business points was the idea of keeping the current market model but digitalize process. In the offline model, Signify doesn't sell directly to installers, there are professional distributors who are the ones selling to installers, which means that are at the same time the main buyers for Signify. Following that approach, LumXpert wants to join forces with key strategic distributors enhance the installer engagement model.

From a project point of view, the team was divided into squads managing different aspects. I was involved in the e-commerce one, so we were in charge of the different features and areas needed to make the e-commerce works: Basket, Where to buy, Checkout, Orders, Warranty (return and replacements), and the Vendor portal (vendor`s platform to sell on LumXpert).

One of the challenges we faced during the project was to understand the different systems and tools involved in building the e-commerce platform, how they work, how they combine, in which order, in which moment of the experience, etc. Here there are some of them:

  • SAP: order managment.
  • Magento: catalogue and Vendor portal.
  • Unirgy: marketplace plugin for Magento.
  • Distributor internal system
  • Stripe: payment platform.
  • Hokodo: pay on credit platform.

The second main challenge was related to the actors involved: distributors and installers. From distributors, the fact to be a Marketplace did that a lot of aspects were specific, and in a big market like professional lighting, there are a lot of ways of working, from setting stock or shipping rates to the product information or the price system. So it was really important to understand how they work, what they need, and how we can best build that experience, we made several rounds of user testing and interviews to gather that information.

Once we analyzed and knew distributors and installers a bit more, our task was to use that information to build a human experience both through the app and the vendor portal. The approach was to study step by step what happened in each process from different perspectives, taking into account that an action reflected on the app must have a result in the portal and vice-versa.

From a professional point of view, this project was and still is one of the most complex ones I faced. The following steps will be to be multi-platform keep introducing new improvements and better user experiences, and land in new European markets.
